Wuhan Land Use and Urban Spatial Planning Research Center (WLSP), a public institution subordinated to Wuhan Municipal Land Resources and Planning Bureau, is a research institute specialized in public welfare services honored of dual A-class qualifications for land use planning and urban & rural planning formulations. WLSP mainly undertakes relevant studies on national, provincial and municipal land use, intensive land-use and classification and grading researches, formulation and amendment of urban planning at different levels, land use planning for construction projects and spatial planning demonstration as well as feasibility studies on urban redevelopment projects and policy studies for relevant planning implementations. Moreover, it is also engaged in handling businesses and affaire at municipal land institute.
Driven by land utilization researches, WLSP focuses on implementation-oriented planning by means of giving full play to its functional feature of “integration of urban planning with land resources management” to provide technical support to the state land resources management as well as professional technical services to governments and departments at all levels and public masses. So far, WLSP has excellently accomplished series of land use, urban planning and policy-related research works including evaluation of intensive land use for Wuhan college education and policy research, key programs of assessment on intensive and economical land utilization like Wuhan urban-rural joint areas intensive land-use assessment pilot project, and Wuhan land saving and intensive use appraisal, improve the property right system of natural resources, deepening the research of water resources property right system, benchmark land price updating, urban design for Wuhan statutory planning and key areas and implementation-oriented planning for key functional zones under the directives of the Ministry of Land and Resources. Meanwhile, WLSP also undertakes the new round of overall planning with specific research, such as Wuhan industrial space planing, Wuhan metro urban planing, updating system planing of Wuhan city, Mapping Wuhan and so on. There are 231 research achievements were awarded with special honor by state, provincial and municipal governments. It has been playing an important role in improving the construction of national central city and international metropolis of Wuhan City.
An increasingly growing and creative team is the foundation of exploitation and advancement to WLSP. It owns over 150 various technicians of land, planning, and construction industry etc., in which there are 5 persons with Doctor, 76 persons with Master degree, accounting for 55% full; High above the title 38. Additionally, 2 persons enjoy the special allowance of the State Council, and 9 persons have the title of state, provincial and municipal expert. It supports greatly to talents and leads the development of city with international professional competence, by cooperating with famous universities and organization at home and abroad. WLSP has conducted various works of design and research with well-known organization, e.g., SOM, Nikken Sekkei, and ARCADIS etc., and has effectively made plans for execution in terms of key functional areas. In 2015, WLSP and ARCADIS signed a strategic cooperation agreement, the Dutch King Willem-Alexander attended the signing ceremony and witness the fruitful results of cooperation.
In 2015, WLSP was approved by The ministry of human resources and social security and The national post-doctor management committee to set up postdoctoral research workstation, which can built the platform for postdoctoral to apply their knowledge. Also, WLSP has signed strategic cooperation agreements with famous university and organization, e.g., University of New South Wales, Thomson Adsett, and Arte Charpentier, etc., and established a Teaching & Experimental Base in China for University of New South Wales, International Cooperation Department, and practice base for Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Wuhan University. Every year, WLSP would send business staff to University of Illinois, University of New South Wales and Delft University of Technology for long-term training.
WLSP is brave in exploration with holding the concepts of “Urban Sustainable Development” and “Integration of Plan and Land”, to construct Five Technology Platforms for the research on land use, plan for execution, general management of land use, demonstration of land use and spatial planning, and policies etc., which has been appreciated highly by public opinion.
